This gorgeous textured saddlebag is a handmade piece from the Bakhtiari tribe in Iran.
The Saddle Bag was used as a means of transporting baggage & possessions. It was also important for a girl to weave a variety of bags for her dowry, so as a result they are often extremely well woven & finely detailed. Today, old tribal bags are becoming hard to find, but are keenly sought after as Collectors items.
This one is especially interesting with the two techniques of knotting and weaving combined creating extra detail!
The bag has been opened out and re-stitched to make a rug at home on the floor or hanging on the wall.
A combinations of woven and knotted techniques with 100% wool.
